WORKSHOP WAY® Reading
Teachers will learn several reading techniques that address daily instructional techniques for fluency, basic comprehension and vocabulary. Special techniques are given to at risk students, but all types of learners are addressed.
HOW WILL WORKSHOP WAY READING WORKSHOP HELP TEACHERS?
In our society knowing how to read is as important to one’s mental and emotional survival as breathing is to one’s physical survival. In order to give teachers time to get all students reading and to feel their worth in the process, Workshop Way allows all students to live throughout each day handling their own learning experiences in a climate conducive to creative living. Without opportunities for creative living in the classroom and the freedom to make wrong decisions, human beings cannot feel their worth as persons who can learn, think and manage their own lives
THIS WORKSHOP WILL HELP TEACHERS TO LEARN HOW
- Workshop Way creates this environment within our Reading program
by:
- Grouping according to personalities not abilities. We call our groups The First Session, The Second Session, and The Third Session with Strategy B, C and A characteristics. These groups can be made up of accelerated learners or below average learners; it depends on their style or approach to learning. (Brain Compatibility)
- The use of various techniques like: Yes-No Cards, Five second phrase card drill for fluency, New Word Drill, Book Risk for foundational comprehension and mental alertness, and Oral Reading at one’s own pace.
- The use of “cushioning Language” to encourage individual and whole group participation. It is the timing of constant doing that moves the growth point of these students.
- The use of Homework Sets, Quotation and Script Writing, Partner Reading, Scratch Pad and Individualized Reading are some of the techniques used.
- A variety of reading material is used throughout the day and if your school requires a particular Reading Series, it can work with this program.
- This Workshop can offer you ways to help those who:
- can’t comprehend higher level thinking skills
- are easily distracted
- have problems understanding
- forget instructions
- need to develop problem solving skills
- have trouble staying on task
Workshop Way offers this class called Reading Workshop Way that not only teaches all of the above ways to help teachers meet students needs but how to implement the WORKSHOP WAY System OF Education for Human Growth. It takes at least 20 to 30 hours of instruction to learn this process.
A whole school may participate or an individual teacher may join others for a workshop.
